Dedicated to World War II military aviation, armored vehicles, and fleets, War Thunder is a highly detailed and realistic combat MMO.
Gameplay
Unlike many MMOs, the tutorial was actually fun to play. The helpful tinting of the screen made it easy to figure out exactly what needed to be done. War Thunder centers itself around amazing combat. With dynamic music, authentic sound effects and impressive graphics War Thunder puts you right in the middle of wartime.
There are PvP and PvE modes. The PvP experiences are varied and include full-scale combat missions with other players. PvE features a dynamic campaign and solo missions.
When you first begin, you choose which country you would like to fly under, as you advance more countries will be unlocked. The same basic principle applies to the aircraft. You have a few starter planes, and can get more as you advance.
The only downside is how the amazing graphics and gameplay can slow your computer down ridiculously, and the servers are either packed or there is too much lag. It took me a while to get into real combat with other players online.
Graphics
The graphics are phenomenal. In order to aid in loading speeds (or whatever), you can change the graphic quality, which is helpful, but on high the graphics are realistic. It puts you in the pilot’s seat in the most real way it can.
The interface lacks the usual clutter of MMOs. The main menu (where you can choose to look into your research or go into battle) lets you toggle the research screen. When the screen isn’t in view, you get to see a beautiful panoramic animation of an airplane sitting out on the runway.
Bottom Line
War Thunder has amazing graphics, and the gameplay is simple and dynamic. This MMO takes all the dreams of a would-be war pilot and plays them out in a realistic way. Come join the fight, shoot some stuff; it’ll be fun.
