Snail Games USA is going to make a bold move to change the face of mobile gaming with the debut of their new line of gaming smartphones – the W and W 3D – alongside their new OBox gaming console at the 2015 International CES in Las Vegas this week. Snail Games is a dominant player in the entertainment software publishing industry in China and they plan on broadening the scope of mobile gaming and home entertainment with new hardware products.
Snail’s gaming smartphones, the W and W 3D, integrate the layout of a traditional game pad, with physical buttons and dual joysticks, into the phone’s design. The phones run on an adapted Android OS, the phones also feature button recognition software, allowing users to play through their favorite mobile titles with the feel and control of a gaming device. Outside of the standard hardware, the W 3D makes exclusive use of a Snail’s latest advancement in eye-tracking and glasses-free 3D display technologies. You’ll be drooling over the 5.5″ HD display, the new eye-tracking 3D allows users to experience glasses-free 3D graphics with real-time auto-adjustment for a more fun and immersive 3D visual experience. The phones will also have all the other features you’d expect from other phones such as Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, and front and back cameras.
The Obox is a meaty Android home console powered by the Nvidia K1 processor, the same seen in Nvidia’s Shieldtablet. Snail plans on allowing retails to sell variations of the hardware. Options will include two different processors, two different HDMI set-ups, and four hard drives ranging from 500GB to 4TB. The parts are interchangeable, allowing owners to make upgrades down the line if need be. All Oboxes will output 3D and 4K video and Snail Games is in the process of porting popular PC games to the device.
Snail Games expects to release both the OBox and W 3D in China Q2 2015 and in US and Mexico Q3 2015. Not retail prices are available yet. A representative said they could range from $99 to $499 depending on the model. The prospect of a $99 Android console that display 3D and 4K video is, on its own, impressive and worth paying attention too.
Snail Games will display and demo their product line at the International CES on January 6th – January 9th from Tech East Booth #25602 in the Las Vegas Convention Center South Hall. Be sure to stay tuned for more information regarding the Obox, W, and W 3D.
