Sony Online Entertainment’s highly anticipated zombie survival MMO, H1Z1, entered early access today, plagued with a variety of problems that caused a hostile response from the MMO community.
The traditional server problems wasted little time before hindering the progress of almost all of the H1Z1 community. Steam did not release a pre-download option so following several hours of release was a wave of eager players trying to log in. This caused severe problems with login servers, leaving many watching an Error G99 screen for 3-4 hours.
For the few that were able to get into the game, a whole host of other problems became apparent, most notably the concerns surrounding pay-to-win mechanics with airdrops. Players can purchase airdrops through premium currency, calling a plane to the server to drop items. One streamer received a gun and some land mines, then the entire community started to accuse SOE of all sorts.
Bottom line? It’s not that bad. Smedley took to Reddit to explain the exact mechanics and what changes the team plan to make. You can read the full Reddit post here.
