SKT T1 and Royal Club dueled last night for the ultimate prize– the Summoner’s Cup. The crowd counted down the seconds until worlds would begin, ending with screams of excitement. An orchestral piece was played live to a video of season 3 highlights, with flickering and color changing lights enhancing the experience. Suspense built for the culmination of hard work put into season 3. The majority of the analysts agreed Royal would win; SKT was under pressure as this season’s underdogs.

Surprisingly, Orianna came through bans on game 1. During the championships, she has been a strong champion, but that did not seem to help Royal. The skills of the lane players were thought to be evenly matched, so it would come down to the influence of the jungles. Royal banned out with the intention to hurt Impact and Bengi, but Bengi went to his old favorite, Jarvan and was able to take control of the jungle throughout the game, and his ganks on mid lane allowed Faker to take control of the lane and put pressure on Orianna. SKT soon snowballed, taking early turrets and objectives, starting out finals with a solid win.

Game 2 started off with a surprising move by Royal; they allowed Zed, Lee Sin and Jax to come through bans, three champions that SKT are very comfortable in, and arguably their strongest champions. Royal had hoped to counter the picks with their own team composition that would excel in 5v5 fights; however, SKT plowed down turrets and took objectives. Royal did tip the game in their favor a few times with their brilliant team fighting, but it was not enough to counter SKT’s strength. Catching Godlike out of position near Baron, SKT powered through to brutally take victory in game 2.

Game 3 was Royal’s last chance to stay alive in finals, but SKT did not let up. Bengi had relentless control of the jungle and the entire team put massive pressure on the entire map. During this match, SKT took an amazing victory in just under 20 minutes. Royal were no match for SKT it seemed, and the underdogs claimed victory, and the coveted Summoner’s Cup.
