Borderlands Online is an upcoming MMORPG FPS developed by 2K Games and published by Shanda Games in China. Many features will stay true to the Borderlands universe, such as the shoot and loot experience, multitude of weaponry, and humorous dialogue, will all be found in Borderlands Online. Driven by story, players will explore Pandora in the shoes of a mercenary.
The game is a FPS but also an RPG. Unlike lobby-based shooters, Borderlands Online will feature a full fledged PvE experience composed of main quests, side missions, instances, guild system, trading, crafting, and more. The game will be instance-based only, so there won’t be open world free roaming. Players will level up to increase their stats and skills. They can allocate skill points to improve their characters and customize their talents to fit their style of play.
The game will add some original contents to adapt to the Chinese Market. There’s a new continent called Pangu and a new starting town called Xiaofeng. The biggest dfiference that we’ll see between Borderlands MMO and previous Borderlands games lies in the instance aspect. Instances are the main adventure zones in Borderlands Online and boss monsters can only be found there. This means that instead of exploring an open world Pandora, players will go into various instances as their adventure goes on. Players will receive quests and party up with others in the town and complete quests in instances. They will go to new towns as they progress.
The PvP system in Borderlands Online is a lot like Guild Wars 2. Once you enter the arena, everyone is synchronized to max level. However, characters skills won’t be scale to the same number which means high level players will have more abilities than new or low level players. The game will be free-to-play with microtransaction.
